It's not expensive, about $30, but worth it. It also works between Windows/Windows, Mac/Windows and also I believe Linux computers. It's not that intuitive, and there are almost no instructions, but once you get it working, it's great and it takes another keyboard and mouse off your desk. You install it on both computers, and tell it which one has the Keyboard/Mouse attached (the "server") and on the other computer tell it to use the other's keyboard/mouse. Something to think about, if you're like me, there is an application called Synergy that I personally bought to allow me to use one keyboard and mouse for both computers. I hate trackpads and laptop keyboards, I have "fat fingers" and prefer external keyboard/mice. It takes a minute or two to get things right in my head, then I'm ok. When I get home and use my PC, I often hit the Windows Key instead of CTRL Key to copy, paste or try to print something. The biggest thing to get used to is on the Mac, the Command Key is the Windows Key, I ended up putting labels on my keyboard for the Command Key and the Option Key (ALT on a Windows Keyboard). My favorite keyboard is the Microsoft 5050 ergonomic keyboard and mouse, which I have on my home PC too. I now work at a school (public), I'm the MAC GUY, and now I have a 13" MacBook Pro (2017) and a 27" iMac (2013) on my desk. I've been swinging both ways, between PC and Mac for over 20 years, but PC's have always been my main computer, up until the last year. AOMO MacBook Pro 15 Inch Case 2012/2013/2014/2015 Release A1398,Beautiful Landscape Pattern Plastic Hard Case with Keyboard Cover for MacBook Pro Retina 15 Inch - Mountain top Opens a new window I got this little baby a couple days ago and it's on the way. (see what I did there?)Īs for shells/armor, I'm way ahead of you: I was also looking at Thunderbolt 2/HDMI adapters and will likely get a couple to tuck into my laptop case, just in case. Vertical Dock for 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display by Henge Docks (Previous Gen MacBook) Opens a new window But, my birthday is coming up in a few months. Already spent quite a bit on the MacBook, itself. The vertical dock I was looking at for work has everything built into it, but yes, I will need to get an extra MagSafe power brick to go with it. I've done that with mine over the years and it just helps stop scratches etc on the display back and bottom. You can also get cases-come-skins-come-shells which you can attach to your Mac to help protect it as well. Perhaps a spare MagSafe power brick so you can leave one plugged in at home and one for on the road? Since it's 2015 you'll need thunderbolt to XXX (HDMI probably) adapters to connect to your monitors, but they should be easily sourced from many online places. Remote Desktop built in (I can never remember that off the top of my head), so you maybe able to ignore my comment about Microsoft RDP on MacOS. If you're going to do Windows 10 with Parallels, if you use Windows 10 Pro I believe you'll get MSTSC. Louis Rossman repairs a Mac Opens a new window I would advise one to subscribe to the Louis Rossmann YouTube Channel: So, what advice would long time Mac users give to a wayward PC user? What pitfalls should I be looking out for? What perks can I look forward to? As a Windows Network/SysAdmin, what software should I be getting right off the bat? What tips and tricks have you found helpful? Gawd have mercy on my soul, I've lost my mind and gone to the dark side. So, naturally, I invested in a used, custom-built, maxed out MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) Opens a new window. However, except for a short period in college when I took a course for programming for iOS, I've never owned a Macintosh of any kind in my life - and certainly never as my daily driver, as it were. So, I am familiar with the system and ecosphere. Don't get me wrong: I used to refurbish old Macintoshes for a living many years back and I've been an iPhone/iWatch/iPad user for years.
